Faculty Excellent Teachers 2017 awarded to Mr Jean-Pierre Basson for his excellent contribution as a teacher within the Faculty of Arts, Nelson Mandela University.  

Teaching Excellence Award 2017: Lecturer of the year awarded to Mr Jean-Pierre Basson as a leading excellent teacher at the Nelson Mandela University at Nelson Mandela University. 

STUDIO MAKE is the the 2nd year BAS undergraduate Design Studio at the Nelson Mandela University School of Architecture and looks to engage with the greater community through projects which have been designed and built by students; engagements with community for design documentation for fundraising purposes; and exhibitions. 

X = Place. The project was the design and construction of a large scale architectural installation at AfrikaBurn in the Tankwa Reserve landscape in the Karoo. The project offered the opportunity to investigate the pedagogical implications and processes of including a design/ build project into the academic curriculum; and as an architectural undertaking explored the potential of the architectural model in the design process, and the use of construction limitations as a generator for tectonic ingenuity.

Architecture as Landscape. The Tsitsikamma: Architecture and Landscape Exhibition was the presentation of a number of projects that explored architecture and its potential responses to landscape. The exploration was mediated though the design of an interpretation centre and boutique hotel in the Tsitsikamma Nature Reserve in the Eastern Cape, which offered a program that is intrinsically rooted in offering visitors an experience of the surrounding landscape.
